Sonya Renee Taylor

Sonya is an award-winning performance poet and activist who believes in the power of art as a vehicle for social change. She is the founder of ‘The Body is Not An Apology’ - a digital media education company promoting self-love and body empowerment as the foundation for social justice and global transformation. 
 
With studies in Sociology and Organisational Management, Sonya uses her work to disrupt systems of inequity. In 2016 she was named a Champion of Women’s Health by Planned Parenthood and was also invited to the Obama White House to speak at their forum on the intersection of LGBTQIAA and Disability issues. 
 
As an educator and thought leader Sonya has enlightened and inspired from boardrooms to prisons. Currently she serves on the Board of Directors for Split This Rock and SisterSong, as well as continuing to engage in issues of racial justice, police brutality, mental health, reproductive rights, and much more. 
 
Residing between the California Bay Area and Aotearoa New Zealand, Sonya tours globally sharing lectures, workshops and performances.
